Oman- MPH holds screening camp to mark World Asthma Day

(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) To mark World Asthma Day on Tuesday, Muscat Private Hospital (MPH) conducted a free asthma screening session and workshop

The hospital receives at least 125 asthma patients every month and a majority of them are children.

John Clarke, director of MPH said, ''Our aim is to spread awareness about the disease, its symptoms and management. With timely medication, asthma can be successfully controlled.''

Dr Nezar al Kubaisy, emergency room physician at MPH said, ''A holistic approach alone can ensure success in treating asthma patients. We have to go beyond diagnosis and treatment of the disease.

''A doctor should be aware of medical history of the patient's family to get to the cause of the disease.''

Dr Pratibha Verma, consultant physician at MPH said, ''Usually, four to eight per cent of pregnant women are found to be asthmatic.

''It is important to control asthma during pregnancy to ensure that the required oxygen reaches the baby. Inhaled medications, and in severe cases, oral steroids are usually advised as they are safe.''

The hospital screened a film to highlight the signs of asthma in pregnant women and children.

Experts provided tips on how parents can play a crucial role in managing child asthma.

They said that exposure to dust, viral infections and passive smoking are the main causes of the disea
