(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Former tennis player Vijay Amritraj and his son were hosted at the Park Inn by Radisson Muscat on their recent visit to Oman.
The hotel was the base for the legendary Indian tennis star during his short stay. Needless to say the management and employees of the hotel went out of the way to extend a warm welcome to him in true Park Inn by Radisson style. ''We are honoured to have the privilege of having a legend tennis player like Vijay staying with us.
This will be an additional milestone for us as we have previously hosted the football legend Diego Maradona,'' said Rabih Zein, general manager, Park Inn by Radisson Muscat. Amritraj was the captain of the Indian Davis Cup for much of the late 1970s and 1980s, helping India reach the finals in 1974 and 1987. It was here that he revelled as a champion and eked out memorable wins against higher ranked players.
A do-or-die five set epic over Mart?n Jaite of Argentina was the highlight of India's run to the final in 1987. He still plays occasionally and has entered the finals of the 2008 Wimbledon Senior Invitation Gentlemen's Doubles, partnering Gene Mayer. They were seeded number 1. The next year Amritraj participated in Wimbledon Senior Invitation Gentlemen's Doubles with John Fitzgerald.
