(MENAFN - Arab News) Rk has begun on the new east ring road project in jeddah said mohammed al-buqami jeddah municipality spokesman.the project implemented in coordination with the roads and transport department in makkah will cost more than sr90 million and will help ease traffic by as much as 70 percent.mohamed madani director-general of the department denied rumors circulating on social media sites saying that the project has been suspended.'the project file was submitted to the transport ministry several months ago and is now under study" he said.madani also said that coordination is currently underway for selecting the company that will execute the project.a source at the jeddah municipality said that the municipality had previously been instructed transferring the project to the transport ministry for implementation. the new road will be more than 87 km long and will run from the southern harbor to the gulf of salman in the north.the source revealed implementation will take place in five phases.the first phase will span nine km beginning from the port while the second will cover 15.7 km southeast of prince fawaz street.the third phase will span 11.8 km from the south iskan area to the abrug al-rughama area the fourth 17 km to the briman neighborhood and the fifth and final stage will cover the remaining 33 km extending from the briman neighborhood to the gulf of salman area. the new east ring road will run in parallel to the haramain highway.in addition bridges that lie along the highest including palestine briman and other bridges will be linked to the new ring road.
