Japan France to Discuss Joint Defense Development


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) japan's prime minister shinzo abe and french president francois hollande have agreed to begin talks on the joint development of defense equipment including systems using drones. the leaders met in paris on monday. abe said japan will help to build global peace and prosperity based on his policy of proactive contribution to peace. hollande expressed support for abe's stance. the leaders also agreed to cooperate on designing a next generation nuclear reactor called astrid and to develop nuclear waste treatment technologies. abe said he and hollande agreed that growing security concerns in europe and east asia mean close cooperation between japan and france is more necessary than ever. he said they want to contribute to global peace and stability as well as economic growth and cultural development. hollande said he and abe strengthened their ties in economic security and cultural areas.
