(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) A new portable crushing and grinding machine, an innovation that will help the industrial sector, was launched on Monday under the patronage of H E Eng Ali bin Masoud bin Ali al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry, at Crowne Plaza Muscat.
Kamla al Aufi, chairman of World of Natural Stones, said, ''This event was not just a launch of the machine, but also a celebration of an Omani innovation that resulted due to a collaboration between the World of Natural Stones, IIC and CCE.''
The machine, which is now fully operational and is being used by the World of Natural Stones on a daily basis, was made by the Industrial Innovation Centre (IIC) in collaboration with the Caledonian College of Engineering (CCE).
Addressing the audience, Abdullah al Zakwani, executive director, IIC, said, ''We all know there are a lot of crushing and grinding machines that are available internationally. However, they are very big in size and require large spaces. They are quite expensive. The highlight of this crushing and grinding machine is its size. The machine has been designed by researchers at CCE without compromising on its functions. This machine has the power to crush granite and marble and some of the hardest compounds in the world.
''It will not only help World of Natural Stones reap financial benefits, but will also help it create a greener factory, which will reduce the amount of waste generated.''
The machine is also being seen as useful for marble and granite factories, both in Oman and across the world, who face the problem of disposing of waste. It will also be of interest to those involved in local handicraft, gardening, landscaping, interior design, adhesive and jewellery industries, especially SMEs.
