Oman- Rains hit Muscat, Met office says more showers likely

(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) An overcast morning witnessed light to moderate showers in and around Muscat on Monday afternoon causing some flooding and traffic jams.

The Met office has said that Muscat may get more rain in the next 24 hours, affecting visibility and bringing down temperature. Water logging

on the Qurm Heights road brought traffic to a halt for a while.

A senior official from the Directorate General for Meteorology and Air Navigation said, ''These rains are not an abnormal phenomenon during this time of the year. Convergence of surface winds, easterly winds in the upper air, activity clouds over the mountains in Dhofar and low pressure over the sea have caused the rain.''

Parts of Dakhliyah, Nizwa, Bahla, Samail, Jebel Akhdar, Adam and North Sharqiyah received light showers on Sunday.

Meanwhile, power outage due to a severed mainline affected several parts of Qurm on Monday afternoon.

Engineers from the Muscat Electricity Distribution Company officials said the outage was not due to the weather. Oman- Rains hit Muscat, Met office says more showers likely
