US Seeks to Expand Response System against N. Korea's Missile Threats

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Washington May 06 - The United States Missile Defense Agency is seeking to expand its budget on missile defense to be better prepared for North Korea's possible attacks against the US mainland.

The agency under the Pentagon requested the approval of a 75 million dollar budget to deploy a long-range discrimination radar to respond to Pyongyang's intercontinental ballistic missile threats according to Korea's (KBS WORLD) website.

The request comes after the agency initially earmarked 30 million dollars in early 2013 for the project.

A long-range discrimination radar is designed to distinguish warheads from decoys in the event the North fires intercontinental ballistic missiles toward the US.

The agency also set next year's missile defense budget to one-point-three billion dollars to respond to missile attacks from the North and Iran.
