Hamas Releases Fatah Prisoners as Part of the Reconciliation Deal


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Gaza strip May 05 - Head of deposed Palestinian government in Gaza strip Ismael Haniya announced Monday the release of a number of detainees belonging to Fatah as part of the reconciliation deal struck recently between the two sides.

Haniya held a press conference today and said that Hamas has also welcomed the return of former Fatah MPs who had left the strip . He said that such moves were an effort by Hamas to consolidate the reconciliation deal.

Hamas had released a number of Fatah detainees who were imprisoned in political cases. They also said they would welcome the return of Fatah politicians who left the strip in the past with the exception of those who are facing trials.
