a man and his first wife will stand trial for the alleged confinement physical torture and premeditated murder of his second wife in abu dhabi. the couple has also been accused of physically assaulting the children of the deceased with her son suffering a permanent disability and daughter 40 per cent disability.
the abu dhabi public prosecution received information that a woman and her children were imprisoned at a house in bani yas. the woman was subjected to physical torture and deprived of food. the police were directed to the house where they found the woman dead.
the accused man married the deceased six years ago in an arab country and had two children with her. he reportedly admitted that he tortured her because she did not fulfill his domestic needs. he also confessed to confining her as she suffered from a psychiatric disease.
the man said that on the day his wife died he went home and found his “bedroom in a mess” which made him furious. he assaulted her in a fit of anger leading to her death.
his first wife also reportedly admitted in the investigation to assaulting the victim and her two children.
the post-mortem report revealed that the deceased had a fracture in her upper teeth; multiple wounds in her neck and shoulder; burn injuries; multiple fractures in the ribs; and torn liver due to frequent bodily assaults. the forensic doctor also opined that the victim suffered from “intense emaciation” caused by malnutrition.
