(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) The three accused ? two yemenis and a saudi ? allegedly committed the robbery on a friday taking advantage of the fact that the school was closed.

a gang of three robbers stood trial on sunday for breaking into a school and stealing dh44231 and 654 cheques worth dh4.3 million.

the three accused — two yemenis and a saudi — allegedly committed the robbery on a friday taking advantage of the fact that the school was closed. some security guards on duty were asleep at the time.

the three suspects — all unemployed and aged 25 30 and 33 — faced charges of armed robbery and damaging private property in the court of first instance.

the school’s director-assistant a 44-year-old omani said he was informed about the robbery by his secretary at around 3.24pm on october 4 last year. “i was told the thieves stole dh44231 and an envelope containing 654 cheques worth dh4.3 million drawn on several banks.&rduo;

the defendants allegedly broke into the school’s administration wing and forced open the window of the accounting office. they then broke open the safe and stole the money and cheques.

they used tools to break the safe desk drawers door and window and caused damage worth more than dh3300.

a police lieutenant said they arrested the accused around 2pm on november 19 last year from a flat in sharjah. sums of money were seized from them. gloves masks and tools like screw driver hammer and scissors were found in their rented car.

the rental agency which owned the car had equipped it with a gps tracking system and they provided the investigators the path the car had taken on the day of the incident. it showed that the car was parked outside the school after midnight on the day.

the school’s surveillance camera footage showed the men entering the school at 12.28am and heading towards the accounting office.
