Japan Spain Agree to Promote Defense Exchanges


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Tokyo May 05 - Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his Spanish counterpart Mariano Rajoy have agreed to promote bilateral defense exchanges.

The leaders held talks in Rajoy's birthplace of Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain. Abe is on the fourth leg of his European tour.

Ahead of the meeting Abe said Japan and Spain are boosting exchanges to further develop their ties in commemoration of the 400th anniversary of their relations Japan's (NHK World) website reported.

Abe added that he wants to converse with Prime Minister Rajoy in a relaxed manner to deepen the personal relationship of trust between them.

Rajoy said he strongly desires the development of active bilateral interchanges.

Rajoy supported Abe's policy of Japan's proactive contribution to international peace and stability.

The prime ministers agreed to further advance bilateral exchanges between defense officials to bolster security collaboration.

They also agreed to strengthen bilateral diplomatic cooperation between Japan and Spain in Asia and Latin America.

After Spain Abe's next stop is France.
