IMF Exec Urges Japan to Raise Consumption Tax Rate to 10%


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Astana May 05 - The Japanese government should proceed with the second stage of a planned two-stage consumption tax hike to 10 percent in October next year to restore the country's precarious fiscal health a senior International Monetary Fund official said.

Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's administration should "carry out the tax hike as planned" to send a message to the market that it has promoted fiscal rehabilitation IMF Deputy Managing Director Naoyuki Shinohara said in an interview with Japan's (Kyodo) News in Astana.

Shinohara visited the capital of Kazakhstan to attend an annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank.
