Libyan parliament doesn't recognize Maiteeq as PM

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Libyan parliament does not recognize Ahmad Maiteeq as Prime Minister because he failed to win votes needed to win the post although he was announced premier earlier in the day, the house said. Maiteeq won 113 in the first reading, seven votes short of the needed number and the house was confused with the voting process. Today's session ended with Maiteeq failing to win the necessary votes "and the procedures that took place after the end of the session are void, illegal and cannot be implemented," the parliament said in a statement. Abdullah Al-Thani will remain as care-taker Prime Minister until a new head of government is elected in line with "sound legal and constitutional procedures," it added. Parliament first vice-speaker Izz Al-Deen Al-Awali asked Al-Thani to continue with his duties until a new Prime Minister was elected.
