Fire sweeps through five farms in Sohar village two Omanis killed, eight hurt in accidents


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Burning of waste on a farm near Majees village in Sohar on Sunday led to a major fire that spread to neighbouring farms. 

''The fire was reported at 11.04am as a minor one, but fanned by winds, it soon spread to five adjoining farms destroying all vegetation in its path,'' a Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulances (PACDA) official said. The blaze was brought under control by 2pm. No casualties were reported.

Meanwhile, two deaths were reported from four separate accidents across the sultanate on Sunday. Eight persons were also reported injured. Two Omanis were killed in a collision opposite the Al Hamra Health Centre in Al Hamra at around 5.15am.

Another accident in Nizwa at around 9.30am left one person critically injured and two Omani men with moderate injuries. The accident took place when the driver of their car lost control over the vehicle. The two were taken to Nizwa Hospital in vehicles of PACDA, while the third one was transported by members of the public.

The third accident took place in Salalah's Auqad area at around 1.30pm. A taxi driver was critically injured when his vehicle hit a truck. The truck driver was unhurt. A collision at around 5pm in Khor al Milh, Saham, left three Omanis and a Bangladeshi national with moderate injuries.
