(MENAFN - The Peninsula) Katara has signed a cooperation agreement with the International Organization of Folk Art (IOV) Bahrain Regional Office to host cultural and traditional folkloric shows from 25 countries.

IOV is one of the major international nongovernmental organizations operating under the United Nation Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco), whose mission is to increase the awareness and appreciation of all forms of folk art and folk culture.

Khalifa lauded the efforts carried out by Katara in reviving art and cultural heritage and encouraging societies to stick to their traditions and identity with their traditional art and culture as bridge of communication.

Dr Al Sulaiti said: "We are keen to diversify our cultural activities and events by hosting exhibitions, concerts, programmes and lectures as well as host traditional folk art and culture events.

According to this agreement, he said, Katara will host a programme entitled "Appointment with Katara", which will last for six months from October to March, during which traditional folklore will be performed every Monday and Tuesday of the by artistes from 25 countries from various continents.

On why the performances are scheduled on Mondays and Tuesdays, he said: "We don't want to limit our events and activities on weekends. We want the events to run throughout the week."

Established in 1976, IOV has 184 countries as members and is dedicated to researching, documenting, transmitting and presenting all forms of ethnic and indigenous folk art and folk culture, both tangible and intangible, as a means to accomplish goals.
