(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Oman's first Golf Ball is to be held at the Shangri-La's Barr al Jissah Resort on May 9 in collaboration with The Zubair Corporation and Golf World.

The event is set to bring all golfers and future golfers together to celebrate the rising popularity of the sport in Oman and the end of the winter golfing season. Commenting upon the event, Leon Sassen, general manager, Golf World, said, ''It's a great way to end the winter season with all players coming together and celebrating.

The Golf Ball has received wonderful support from all the golf courses involved and it shows the great camaraderie between the clubs. ''We are pleased to have welcome on board The Zubair Corporation as the main sponsor of the event and would like to thank them for their support of our celebration.

''Thanks also must go to OUA who are also helping sponsor the event, which only adds more depth to the Ball. Golf in Oman has come a long way from when I moved to Oman in 2008 and I am looking forward to the celebration.'' The idea of the evening is to celebrate the sport but also the participation amongst all the golf enthusiasts in Muscat.

The event is set to feature a live band and DJ and there will be an element of competition running through the evening in honour of the sport itself where prizes can be won. While talking about the participation of The Zubair Corporation in the premiere running of the Golf Ball, Ziyad M al Zubair, director of The Zubair Corporation, said, ''Year on year golf as a sport is enjoying huge success in the sultanate and accordingly the competitive standards are being raised, as facilities expand and new players take the sport up.

''I'm pleased to see a strong community developing and hope to see the sport go from strength to strength. It is a pleasure to be able to celebrate this achievement and become involved with the first golf ball to be held in Oman.'' The Golf Ball is now open to the public with tickets available for purchase from Muscat Hills Golf Course, Al Mouj Golf and Ghala Valley Golf Clu
