Vodafone Qatar Launches AmanTech Aid for Children's Online Safety


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Doha May 04 - Vodafone Qatar Sunday launched AmanTech a digital literacy programme based on awareness education and technical support that will help parents monitor children's online content usage and improve their safety.

AmanTech or safe technology will help to raise parents' and children's awareness on using the internet safely and their digital rights executives told a media conference here today.

Vodafone Qatar CEO Kyle Whitehill; Injaz Qatar Executive Director Aysha Al Mudehki; Clinical and Forensic Psychologist Dr Raymond Hamden and Channel Islands Jersey-based Airtel-Vodafone CEO Ian Campbell spoke on the benefits and dangers of children using social media and accessing online content.

Whitehill said "We aim to empower parents and to help them equip their children with the right tools and understanding to navigate the digital world safely and to take full advantage of its benefits." In its first year AmanTech will reach out to 50000 students aged between five to 17; 15000 teachers; and 25000 parents.

Vodafone Qatar Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability Head Dana Haidan who moderated the discussion said "It is crucial for parents to know the digital content children access limit their usage time and choose social networks and safety controls." Vowing to practice what she preaches Aysha Al Mudekhi said "Parents need to be careful as to how they use new technology. It is a tool for education and not for addiction. Parents should constantly interact with children and ensure they have access to right content through right channels." (MORE)
