(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) H E Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications has said that the draft of the National Strategy for Logistics Services (2014-40) will be ready by year-end.
Addressing the second meeting of the working group preparing the strategy, at Grand Hyatt Muscat on Thursday, H E Dr Futaisi said, ''We are in the process of completing the first phase of the strategy. Teams have been formed and data has been collected; we are currently assessing the situation of the logistics and transport industry in the sultanate.''
He also said that seven teams have been formed to draft the strategy which will take care of every aspects of the sector.
There are about 45 citizens and expatriates who are working to prepare the draft. ''Students from the Sultan Qaboos University and the International Maritime College of Oman are also assisting and providing inputs in formulating the strategy, H E Dr Futaisi added.
''We hope to begin work on the second phase soon. This will include visiting other countries to understand how the logistics sector is faring there. Team members will analyse data and provide inputs accordingly. In the third phase, the draft will be written and the strategy finalised.''
H E Dr Futaisi said that the group is also working on a strategy to ensure that the logistic sector emerges one of the biggest contributors to the national economy.
