OSCE staff arrive in Germany after abduction ends in E. Ukraine

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) A group of international observers who had been abducted by pro-Russian separatists in the Ukraine arrived at Berlin on Saturday after being earlier released by their captors. The monitors, who were abducted in eastern Ukraine's Slavyansk on April 25, had been accused of espionage by the separatists. Seven employees of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) - four Germans, a Czech, a Dane and a Pole - arrived at the military section of Berlin Tegel Airport, while another five, all Ukrainians, were taken to Kiev, read a statement by the German Federal Ministry of Defence. They were welcomed by Germany's Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen, accompanied by her counterparts from the Czech Republic and Denmark, and representatives of the governments of Poland and Sweden. The German government had earlier expressed satisfaction at the release and gratitude for the role of Russia in negotiating the decision.
