Oman- EUNavfor airlifts merchant vessel crew member to Salalah hospital

(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) A crew member from the MV Jumme Trader was airlifted by the EU Naval Force (EUNavfor) to Salalah after he fell 'seriously ill' when the merchant vessel was in transit through the Gulf of Aden recently.

The incident occurred on April 30 when an SOS message from the Jumme Trader was picked up by the EU Navfor flagship FGS Brandenburg.

The on-board Force Commander then directed another EU Navfor warship, FS Floréal, to provide medical assistance.

According to a release, the FS Floréal which was approximately 140 miles away, sent its helicopter with a medical team to assess the sailors condition.

'After assessing the patient, he was evacuated to FS Floréal's sickbay for further medical care,' stated the EU Navfor release. Following treatment the sailor's condition stabilised and he was evacuated to Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah on April 31.

The Jumme Trader is expected to dock in Port of Salalah in the coming days. Oman- EUNavfor airlifts merchant vessel crew member to Salalah hospital
