(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Fanja is assured of the runner-up spot in the inaugural Omantel Professional League (OPL) after edging Dhofar 1-0 in its penultimate game last week.
The win gave Fanja 49 points, five more than third placed Suwaiq (44), with just a game to go. Al Nahda had already clinched the opening edition of the OPL, after garnering an unassailable 54 points last week.
Meanwhile, Majees and Al Ittihad were relegated to the first division league with a round to spare. Majees with 14 points is in 12th place, while Al Ittihad (8) is at the bottom of the 13-team league.
Also, first division league champion Al Khaurah and runner-up Bausher earned promotion into the next edition of the OPL.
Al Nasr, which is currently placed 12th in the OPL, will take on third-placed first division league team, Al Mudhaibi, in a playoff for the final position in the top-flight league.
The final round of the OPL will be held on May 16 with Al Nahda being awarded the winner's trophy at the Seeb Sports Stadium.
Prior to the OPL final round, Fanja will meet Bausher and Al Nahda will travel to Salalah to meet Dhofar in the second-leg semifinal of the HM's Cup on May 9. Fanja leads Bausher 2-1 while Dhofar is 1-0 up against Nahda after the first leg.
