Mudslide in Afghanistan Kills 260 People


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Kabul May 03 - At least 260 people were found dead Saturday and 300 families went missing in a mudslide in Afghanistan.

Some 700 families evacuated the affected areas where they are receiving the necessary aid. The natural disaster occurred Friday after heavy torrential rain with a village in the North-East of Afghanistan completely buried by the mud.

Deputy Governor of Badakshan Province Gul Ahmad Bedar saying the authorities registered 260 dead bodies so far. The 300 families missing are equal to 2000-2100 people. Bedar said he expected the death toll to rise in the coming hours the DPA reported.

The mudslide came in two waves; the first wave killed a number of people inhabiting the affected villages and the second came in and buried people who came to help.
