Pakistan Lodges Protest over India Visa Denial


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Islamabad May 03 - Pakistan formally protested to India over what it called denial of visas to 500 Pakistanis for participation in annual religious festival at the shrine of a Muslim saint in the Indian city of Ajmer.

The Indian Deputy High Commissioner was summoned to the Foreign Office and a protest was lodged over denial of visas for intending visitors to Ajmer for the 'Urs' (festival) of Hazrat Khawaja Moinuddin Chishti.

An official statement said visits to religious shrines in Pakistan and India are governed under a bilateral accord.

"The Foreign Office conveyed its deep disappointment and concern over the denial of visas by the Indian government" the statement said.
