Ten Persons Killed in Indian Assam Province


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) New Delhi May 02 - At least 10 persons were killed eight of them women when heavily armed militants opened indiscriminate fire in two different villages one each in Kokrajhar and Baska districts under the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) in Assam on Thursday night.

Though the police claimed that the incidents were not related to the just-concluded Lok Sabha elections unofficial sources in Kokrajhar said the villagers might have been targeted because they had apparently not voted in favour of a particular party and its candidate.

Confirming this Assam Police IGP LR Bishnoi who holds charge over the four Bodoland districts said while three persons were killed in the first incident in Baska district at around 7 PM yesterday seven persons were gunned down around midnight in Kokrajhar district. In both incidents the militants suspected to be of the NDFB(S) faction used AK-series weapons the IGP said.

While two women and a man were killed in the first incident at village Narsingbari under Anandabazar police station in Baska district six of the seven killed in the attack in Balapara village under Tulsibeel outpost of Gossaigaon police station in Kokrajhar district were women. The victims in both incidents were from the migrant Muslim community The Indian Express reported.
