Taliban Commander Killed in Kunduz Province


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Kabul May 01 -A Taliban commander was killed during clashes with the Afghan security forces in northern Kunduz province of Afghanistan local officials said.

At least two Taliban militants were also killed following the clashes which took place on Thursday morning in Chahar Dara district.

Provincial police spokesman Syed Sarwar Hussaini confirmed that the incident took place around 8:00 am local time leaving three militants including their commander dead.

He did not disclose further information regarding the casualties of Afghan security forces during the clashes.

In the meantime local officials said at least three Afghan Local Policemen were killed in a separate incident in Dasht-e-Archi district of Kunduz province.

Kunduz is among the relatively volatile provinces in northern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militants are active in a number of its districts and frequently carry out insurgency activities.

In a related development at least six militants along with an Afghan policeman were killed following clashes in western Farah province of Afghanistan.

According to local government officials the incident took place late Wednesday night in Khak-e-Safa district.

A spokesman for the provincial security commandment Jawid Kargar said a group of anti-government armed militants attacked the district compound a number of security check posts around 10:00 pm local time.

Mr. Kargar further added that 10 militants and an Afghan policeman were also injured during the clashes.

Farah is among the relatively restive provinces in western Afghanistan. The anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban militants are active in a number of its districts and frequently carry out insurgency activities.
