(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Two teams ¨C Shadow and Positive Beam ¨C will represent Oman in the Pan Arab finals of Imagine Cup 2014 which will be held in Doha, Qatar this month-end.
The winners were selected on the basis of their performance at the national finals of Imagine Cup held at the Omantel headquarters on Tuesday.
While Team Shadow won in the Worldwide Citizenship category, Team Positive Beam emerged winner in the Innovation category.
Team Shadow with members from the Higher College of Technology (HCT), Sultan Qaboos University and the College of Applied Sciences won for its project Smarty Shopper, a mobile application that aims to assist shoppers with visual impairment learn more about the products they are about to purchase.
The application scans a product's barcode and reads out the price, expiration date and other information about the product.
''We are happy to win this title,'' a member from the Team Shadow said.
''Creating an application to help solve a problem that society faces is a great honour. We hope to win the Pan-Arab finals in Qatar.''
Team Positive Beam from HCT won for its social application Easy Talk which acts as a translator for two persons chatting in different languages.
Team Big Dreamer from SQU received the Mobility Award for its application Timey.
The competition was organised by Microsoft in partnership with Information Technology Authority (ITA) and Omantel. Five teams took part in the competition. Participants thanked Microsoft, ITA, Omantel and the National Youth Commission for their continued support.
Dr Salim Sultan al Ruzaiqi, CEO of ITA, congratulated the winners and praised their presentation skills and confidence.
