(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Bangkok April 30 - Thailand's government and poll authorities have agreed on July 20 for new general election.
The previous election which was held on February 2 was invalidated by Thailand's Constitutional Court last month after the opposition Democrat Party boycotted the poll.
Today's announcement comes after 6 months and mass anti-government rallies in Bangkok late last year and earlier this year reported 'Asian Correspondent' newspaper.
Although it remains unclear whether the anti-government movement will try to disrupt this election as well the opposition Democrat Party's leader Abhisit Vejjajiva has softened his stance in recent days indicating that his party will likely contest the elections.
The commission announced the date after meeting Wednesday with Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and other officials.
Anti-government protesters have been calling for Yingluck to step down as Prime Minister to allow an interim non-elected government to implement anti-corruption reforms and remove her family's influence from politics.
