(MENAFN - Arab News) The british consulate in jeddah celebrated the birthday of queen elizabeth ii at the residence of consul general mohammed shokat in the presences of distinguish saudi guests and diplomats on monday.

shokat welcomed the guest of honor jamal bilkhair the representative from the saudi ministry of foreign affairs in makkah and other dignitaries and said that the relationship between the two royal families is one of respect understanding love and friendship and there was no better symbol of that than prince of wales dressed in traditional saudi costume dancing the ardah with his friends from the saudi royal family. it almost felt as though that iconic image spread through the kingdom on social media almost as quickly as gangnam style.

“beyond this relationship between the two royal families saudi arabia is our most important partner in the arab world. the first thing to say is that our historic relationship with saudi arabia gave us an excellent start. we have been present in and with the country since its foundation friendship is defined by the energy time and effort both friends invest into the future of each other” he said.

he also said that the future of both kingdoms are the youth and many thousands of saudis are studying in the united kingdom and then returning to contribute to the future growth of this country. "last year the uk issued over 110000 visas across the kingdom with over 45000 coming through our jeddah visa center. this is because the uk and london in particular is seen by saudis as welcoming familiar and also exciting."

“i also visited one of the new saudi centers of excellence in south jeddah run by a consortium of british institutions nescot providing vocational training for 700 saudi women in its first year of operation. a number of british companies have also recently won contracts to operate similar centers of excellence across the kingdom. they will produce the future work force that will drive this country forward. we remain a leading investor in saudi arabia with 200 jvs valued at around 18 billion and companies such as jaguar land rover announcing their intention to begin car production facilities in the kingdom — this all contributes to the future growth of the kingdom” he added.

julian reilly charge d’affaires in riyadh who came especially to attend the event said that he is very pleased by the support of the saudi dignitaries and businessmen extended to the british consulate and its work.
