Egyptian Court Sentences 29 People to Prison for Illegal Protesting

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Cairo April 29 - A court in Egypt sentenced 29 people to five years in prison and a fine of LE 100000 for illegal protesting.

The 29 people were incarcerated during their protest against the deposal of former President Dr. Mohammed Morsy. The protest was in December 2013. Other charges were that they destroyed public and private property and belonged to the Muslim Brotherhood.

It is the latest in a series of verdicts that caused outrage worldwide. Yesterday an Egyptian court sentenced 37 people to death and 491 others to life in prison for killing one officer. Also yesterday another court banned April 6 movement saying it participated in activities that distorted the image of the Egyptian state. The movement was the only group to publicly call for the January 25 revolution which eventually ousted former President Mohammed Hosni Mubarak.
