EU Pledged Half Billion Dollars to Ukraine

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Brussels April 29 - The European Commission pledged $505.4 million to Ukraine to help the country stabilize after the change in regime.

German news agency DPA reported today that EU Neighbourhood Policy Commissioner Stefan Fule said the new aid package is meant to help the Ukrainian authorities continue with its reforms. He added that the majority of the aid is meant to help the government address short-term economic needs.

The funding will also be conditional on Kiev taking steps against corruption as well as carrying out judicial electoral and constitutional reform. The EU and the US have been looking to strengthen their ties with Ukraine after former President Viktor Yanukovych was deposed.
