UK Misses GDP Forecast for 2014 First Quarter


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) London April 29 - The UK economy slightly missed expectations and grew by 0.8% in the first quarter of 2014.

The economy was expected to grow by 0.9% during the first three quarters of 2014. Nonetheless this was the fifth consecutive quarter in which UK economy recorded growth. The country is now on course for a 3.1% yearly GDP growth rather than the anticipated 3.2%. The index of services measures the change in the total Gross Added Value (GAV) of the private and government services sector hit the forecast rate of 0.9%.

George Osborne Chancellor of the Exchequer and Second Lord of the Treasury of the United Kingdom said that today's results showed Britain was "coming back" the Guardian newspaper reported.
