The president held talks with GE boss and was due to meet Siemens' CEO to discuss the fate of the company. France said that it prefers Germany's Siemens over GE. The country's Economy Minister said: 'We won't let Alstom sell this national champion behind the back of its shareholders, its employees and the French government." Alstom is plagued by big debts and decreasing demand and was bailed out by the government in 2004. The firm needs help again as it was hit hard due to demand dropping following the 2008 economic crisis.
