(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Arab League permanent envoys, in an emergency meeting on Monday, hailed the reconciliation pact recently reached between main Palestinian factions Fatah and Hamas.

The envoys, following the talks, announced their nations' "full support of this accomplishment," urging the need for haste where implementation of the agreement is concerned.

The two factions, after a seven-year split, announced after talks in Gaza last Wednesday that they would form a national unity government made up of technocrats within a five-week timeframe based on earlier agreements they had made during talks in Cairo and Doha.

The council of permanent envoys, in a statement, went on to congratulate the Palestinian leadership, factions and people on the milestone it said would "enhance the Palestinian position and the unison of its decisions on the national scale towards challenges that face its case." It regarded the pact as "a fundamental insurance" that would aid the Palestinian people in achieving their goals of freedom, independence, ending Israeli occupation and creating an independent state, with a capital of East Jerusalem, based on the borders of June 1967.

The statement expressed gratitude to the countries who welcomed the decision, particularly Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other Arab nations.

It underlined that there would be no peace without the creation of an independent Palestinian state, reiterating that Israel's continued illegal settlement and judaization policies were a blatant breach of interational law.

Israel bares complete responsibility for the "critical deadlock" its talks with the Palestinians have reached, due to its refusal to commit to the terms of reference of the peace process, the two-state solution and to carry out its pledges to release the fourth group of Palestinian prisoners, added the statement.

The envoys reiterated the Arab League's complete and utter rejection of recognizing Israel as "a Jewish state" and pressure that is being applied on the Palestinian leadership to subscribe to the notion.

They also urged commitment to supporting Palestinian efforts to join specialised international agencies, global agreements, conventions and protocols as this is a right that should be granted to the Palestinians and would increase their legal status within the international family.

The statement expressed condemnation over what it called Israel's "continuous dangerous violations" on Al-Aqsa Mosque, aimed at "Judaizing, dividing and controlling" the holy shrine.

It urged for haste from the international community in putting "an immediate stop" to these violations on the important Islamic holy shrine which could "threaten the stability of the region and cause a sectarian conflict of severe consequences." The international community was also called upon to put pressure on Israel to end its siege on Gaza and to open border crossings according to a deal on this reached in 2005.

The statement went on to commend Kuwait for its pledge of USD 15 million to the UN relief agency in Palestin, UNRWA.
