(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Kuwaiti lawmakers from the Kuwaiti-Turkish Friendship Committee praised Monday Turkey's major role in the Middle East and the responsibility it took to find solutions to the many problems the region.

Chairman of the committee MP Faisal Al-Shaye made the remark during a meeting with Parliament speaker Cemil Cicek, adding that Turkey plays a vital role in bolstering stability in the region, calling for the exert of efforts to improve peace and stability in this important region.

Al-Shaye said that the Kuwaiti delegation had many fruitful meetings with Turkish lawmakers and officials from health, education, Youth and Sport ministries, and was briefed on the Turkish experience and expertise in these fields, a move to help expand cooperation.

For his part, speaker Cicek said that the visit by the Kuwaiti lawmakers, the second in six months, was a proof of intense activity to boost parliamentarian relations and to push forward bilateral relations in all fields.

Cicek also praised the positive role played by Kuwait in the region, noting that "Kuwait has a great political weight in the region, especially in its relations with GCCcountries." The Turkish Speaker noted that the more developed the relations among Middle East countries the more stability this region will be, but stressed that the region was in dire need of security and stability.

Cicek praised efforts of the parliamentary committee and said that cooperation between the parliamentary friendship committees in both countries witnessed great achievements.

With regards to trade exchange and investment between the two countries, the Turkish speaker agreed with the Kuwaiti view on need of promoting such relations, adding the volume of trade between does not reflect the strength of the relationships that dated back for 50 years.

Meanwhile, Kuwaiti lawmakers met with the Minister of Youth and Sport Akif Cagatay Kilic and discussed ways to benefit from Turkey's privatization of sport clubs, and expand cooperation especially since there is already a sport cooperation agreement signed between the two sides.

The Kuwaiti delegation called for benefitting from Turkey's experience in addressing sport drug enhancement.

Earlier, Kuwaiti lawmakers met with Education and Health officials to discuss expanding cooperation with Turkey.
