(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Oman's talented youngster Issa al Adawi clinched two bronze medals in the 14-17 years category at the fourth Dubai International Swimming Championships that concluded on Saturday.
Adawi finished the 200m freestyle in 2m00.85s behind UAE's Jakub Karl (1m57.81s) and Egypt's Moaz Mahmoud (2m00.46s).
In the 100m freestyle event, Adawi took the third place after finishing in 55.28s behind winner Karl (53.96s) and runner-up Mahmoud (55.11).
A total of six Omani swimmers participated in the competition. Aiham al Ismaili, who took part in the 50m breaststroke, was the only other Omani swimmer to make it to the finals of his event. He finished seventh.
Abdulrahman al Kulaibi (200m backstroke), Mohammed al Jabri (200m freestyle), Amran al Habsi (50m freestyle) and Nida al Harrasi (200m freestyle) were the other swimmers that took part in the international championship.
Oman squad named for GCC competition
Oman will send an 11-member contingent for the GCC Open Water Championship to be held in Bahrain from May 8-10, according to national team coach Kamel al Khoumeri.
In the open category, Mohammed al Habsi, Khalid al Kulaibi, Abdulrahman al Kulaibi, Musallam al Khaduri and Aiman al Qasmi will compete, while in the 15-17 years category, Adawi, Abdulrahman al Kulaibi, and Harrasi will take part. Ismaili, Bashar al Wahaibi and Mohammed al Kulaibi will represent in the 13-14 years category.
