Google looks to change how businesses in Oman use maps

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Google, along with its Singapore-based partner Lepton Software, is looking to change how businesses in Oman use Google Geo or Google Maps (Gmaps) to reach out to their customers without the need to invest in costly mapping and data collecting exercises.

Google Geo or Gmaps for business is one of the fastest growing offerings of Enterprise Solution Suite from Google, and now customers in GCC and Oman can transform their business process utilising the vertical specific location intelligence solutions that Google and Lepton jointly bring to Oman.

Neil Gyte, head of Geo - Emerging Markets, Google and Abhinav Tandon, head, global sales, Lepton Software, were in Muscat last week to explore the Oman market.

In an interview with Muscat Daily, they said that so far the response from banks, retailers and telcos has been positive.

''There is a big trend among businesses and governments trying to be proactive from the customer service perspective. And with the rapidly growing use and expansion of devices with location finding applications, several organisations are on the lookout on how best to leverage the Google Geo services,'' said Gyte, adding that Google is looking forward to doing work in Oman.

Google Geo allows a customer to layer the business data on a map and see information in more insightful, actionable ways. ''Typically 80 per cent of an organisation's data has a location component and Gmaps helps unleash the unexplored potential of this data in a very fast, easy to use and rich manner,'' said Tandon.

''Customers in Oman or anywhere else have the same problems,'' added Tandon. ''They want better customer experience and things to be fast and simple - which is what Google is known for in consumer space, and it is now bringing that power to Oman. Banks, telcos, and retailers in Oman are wowed that they can actually use Google in solving business problems as well.''

Explaining the concept, Tandon said that banks and retailers can power their branch/store locator with Gmaps which allows the customers to locate the nearest site from their current location, and can calculate the optimal travel route and estimated time using the Distance Matrix API (application programming interface). It also helps users find what they're looking for faster with the Google Places Autocomplete API which suggests nearby places as you type.

Tandon added that telcos can utilise this to plan their business better by using a mash-up of demographics, current network, competition network, points of interests etc over a map to get deep, insightful spatial analytics driven information at a click of a button.

''A picture is worth a thousand words, and a map is worth a thousand pictures, so you have the power of million words by depicting business data on maps instead of traditional tools. Our Google Maps-based innovations are built to let people work anywhere, any time, on any device, without loss of security or control. Google Maps for business will change the way you do business and the vertical specific customisation that Lepton has done on Google Geo, will lead to a faster, more engaging and insightful experience for end customers and also lead to a lot of automation and cost efficiency,'' said Tandon.

Gyte added that Google Maps helps organisations to find new customers, improve sales and profitability through effective target marketing data and analytics, and find new market opportunities by mapping coverage data, licensing areas and customer informa
