(MENAFN - Arab News) The ministry of commerce and industry sleuths closed down a factory in southern riyadh for using recycled sponge to manufacture pillows and mattresses that they marketed as medicated local media reported.
the factory was not in possession of an official name or list of activities media sources said. the owners of the factory have been summoned for further investigation.
inspection field teams from the ministry reportedly found many violations during the raid of the factory including their modus operandi to mislead consumers by claiming that their products were medically approved. inspectors also found products piled up in non-sanitized conditions and observed a lack of safety standards at the site.
more than 12500 products were seized including 2000 pillows 9600 mattress packages inscribed with false five-year guarantees and 900 finished and semi-finished mattresses.
the ministry recently closed down a similar warehouse in faisaliah district in southern riyadh that was run by foreign workers.
the store reportedly used to collect old sponge from waste containers to remanufacture and re-sell products as turkish and american brands.
