Arab League Council Hails Qatar Efforts in Palestinian Reconciliation


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Cairo April 28 - The Arab League council hailed Qatar's efforts in the achievement of Doha declaration on Palestinian reconciliation as well as the efforts of Saudi Arabia and all Arab countries in ending the division between the Palestinian factions.

In a closing statement at the end of an emergency meeting at the level of permanent representatives the council also lauded Egypt's efforts and significant role towards the conclusion of the reconciliation stressing the importance of Cairo continuing its role to broker the implementation of the recent agreement.

The council expressed its complete support for the Palestinian reconciliation which comes as implementation of Cairo agreement that was signed in May 2011 and Doha declaration in 2012.

The Arab League said no peace will exist without the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. It condemned Israel's continued illegal and unlawful settlement policy the Judaization of Jerusalem in flagrant violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions and its continuing attempts to thwart the peace process and blowing up efforts to revive the U.S.-brokered Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.

The council called on the international community to pressure Israel into lifting the blockade on the Gaza Strip which has turned into a big prison and urged the opening of crossings to and from Gaza and the activation of the crossings agreement.
