Search for Missing S. Korean Ferry Passengers Faces Difficulties

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Seoul April 28 - Divers searching for missing passengers of the Sewol ferry are facing difficulties on Monday due to aggravated weather conditions according to (KBS World) news.

A joint rescue team comprised of civilians public workers and military personnel failed to enter waters off Jindo South Jeolla Province on Sunday night due to high waves and strong winds.

The rescue team is said to be attempting to enter waters on Monday morning.

As of Monday morning 188 have been confirmed dead from the ferry sinking 13 days ago and 114 remain unaccounted for.

The government's disaster management headquarters said a first round of search efforts had concluded for 35 out of 64 cabins where missing passengers are likely to be discovered.

With search operations extending over a long period of time a growing number of divers taking part in search efforts are suffering from decompression sickness. As a result operations are being limited to two dives per diver.

The disaster management headquarters said the government is making preparations to salvage and pull the ship out of the water but added it will first consult with families of missing passengers before taking action.
