Al Jazira cruise past Bani Yas

al jazira blanked bani yas in week 24 of the arabian gulf league at the mohammed bin zayed stadium on sunday night.

early goals in the first half gave walter zenga’s men a 2-0 win over bani yas.

al jazira went ahead through an abdelaziz barrada penalty on 10 minutes and abdulla qasem doubled the lead five minutes later.

it was al jazira’s 11th win and they now have 41 points from 24 games. meanwhile it was bani yas’ 10th defeat and they remain on 30 points.

al jazira were without their four first choice defenders with juma abdulla musallem fayez abdulla mousa and hassan ameen missing the game. juma abdulla musallem fayez and hassan ameen were suspended while mousa was out because of an injury.

zenga was also without ahmed rabia al ghilani who had sustained an injury during the afc champions league game against saudi arabia’s al shabab. with so many absentees zenga put his faith in shin hyung-min salim ali ibrahim and jucilei. meanwhile at the al sharjah stadium al ain who relinquished their title to al ahli rallied from a goal down to beat al sharjah 3-1. ghanian asamoah gyan scored a brace. al sharjah had taken an early lead in the second minute of the game but al ain fought hard to get past their hosts.

veteran ibrahim diaky scored the equaliser on 72 minutes and asamoah gyan fired the match-winner a minute later. gyan then completed his double in the first minute of stoppage time.

at the maktoum bin rashid stadium in dubai newly-crowned champions al ahli were held to a 1-1 draw by al shabab. al ahli had gone ahead in the fourth minute through ahmed khalil. but carlos villanueva found the equaliser on 53 minutes through a penalty.

meanwhile in a battle to stave off relegation al wasl were held to a 1-1 draw by emirates at the zabeel stadium in dubai. both sides are still not out of danger just yet.

at the hamdan bin zayed al nahyan stadium in al dhafrah 10-man al wahda beat nine-man al dhafrah 3-1. al dhafrah had gone ahead through makhete diop on 13 minutes through a penalty. but sebastian tagliabue scored the equaliser on 39 minutes through a penalty. hussain fadhel then gave al wahda the lead on 52 minutes after which tagliabue completed his brace with the third on 70 minutes.

at the dubai sports & cultural club stadium al shaab threatened to take dubai fc down with them by holding them to a 1-1 draw. just two more rounds remain in the arabian gulf league.
