US, Japan trade talks make progress

(MENAFN) The US and Japan have found "common ground" for a two-way trade deal, but resolving some remaining points before a meeting of top negotiators is unlikely, The Peninsula Qatar reported. A senior Japanese official said: "We no longer have to worry that the lack of a Japan-US pathway is going to block negotiations with other countries." Recent talks held during the US President's visit to Tokyo came with progress and were announced by the two parties as a "key milestone". The tone following the talks was upbeat this time as previous rounds of talks on a deal have been stalemated by differences over Japan's agriculture market and both countries' car markets.
