German Pres. arrives in Ankara


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) German President Joachim Gauck arrived in Turkey on Sunday for a four-day visit in response to an invitation by President Abdullah Gul. A statement by the Turkish presidency said that the German leader began his visit in the southern Kahramanmaras province where around 300 German troops are stationed as part of NATO forces working in the country. The statement noted that the German president will visit German troops who are manning Patriot missile batteries, before a visit to Syrian refugee camp in the same province. The statement noted that President Gauck will have a number of high ranking meetings in the capital, including with President Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The talks are expected to highlight bilateral cooperation and current development in the region and international arena. The German leader and his Turkish counterpart are also expected to inaugurate the Turkish-German university in Istanbul.
