Britain says ready for more sanctions on Russia

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Foreign Secretary William Hague said Sunday Britain is prepared to "pay the price" of further sanctions against Russia, as a result of its role in the Ukrainian crisis. The EU, US and allies are planning further travel bans and asset freezes against Moscow as punishment for "bullying" behavior, Hague said in a statement to Skynews network. Hague noted that EU representatives will discuss during their meetings tomorrow expanding sanctions on Russia. The Foreign Secretary said that a fresh round of sanctions against Moscow over its meddling in Ukraine would probably involve adding names to an existing list of officials already facing asset freezes and travel bans. Hague noted that the EU and its allies will carefully review commercial and financial sanctions on Moscow, which will have more far reaching measures on the Russian economy and less effects on EU group economies. The secretary added that they "will calculate them in a way that has the maximum effect on the Russian economy and the minimum effect on our own economies in the EU." "But there is a huge price to pay for allowing aggressive bullying behaviour to continue, for a European nation invading another European nation as has already happened in Crimea, breaking all aspects of international law in that regard," Hague said. "History teaches us that we have to stand up to such bullying behaviour from one state on to another," Hague added.
