(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Central Council of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) said Sunday that resumption of negotiations required Israel's commitment to the 1967 borders agreement.
Israel takes full responsibility for eroding all efforts to revive negotiations, Palestinian People's Party Secretary General Bassam Al-Salehi said in a statement after the conclusion of the central council's meeting.
He noted that "Israel is required to commit to the 1967 borders agreement, UN resolutions, complete halt to settlement activities, implementation of previous commitments, and to make a priority the completion of the 1967 borders agreement, including about Jerusalem based on UN resolutions, as a prelude to any negotiating issues all the way to a peace treaty." The council also rejected any substitute framework agreement to international resolutions adopted by the UN, including the determining of state borders, refugees' rights, the illegality of settlements, and the issue of Jerusalem.
The council also rejected to recognize Israel as a Jewish state and called for seeking the UN to condemn settlements.
Regarding the Palestinian reconciliation, the council stressed on the need to complete reconciliation and the formation of a national consensus government and holding elections.
