More Omanis move to higher salary brackets


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) There have been pay hikes across the board for Omanis working in the private sector with an increase in the number of those moving to higher brackets. 

The latest figures show a 10.6 per cent increase - from December 2013 till end of March this year - in the number of Omanis earning a basic salary of RO1,000 to RO2,000. The National Center of Statistics and Information (NSCI) has put this number at 6,557. Its figures highlight a 9.5 per cent increase in those earning a basic pay of RO2,000 or more; the number touched 2,388 in March end.   

Those with a RO300 basic salary totalled 113,609 in March, a 4.4 per cent decline from December last year. During the same period, there was a 23.9 per cent rise in those earning RO300-RO400, a rise of 6,163 from December to 31,970.

There was a 14.2 per cent rise (3,502 from last year) in the number of those in the RO600-RO700 pay bracket.

Till March-end, Muscat governorate had the highest number of Omani private sector employees 64,419 (a rise of 690 from December), followed by North Batinah (32,656) and Dakhliyah (21,265).

Only 777 Omanis were employed in the private sector in Al Wusta, putting the governorate at the bottom of the list despite recording a 13.4 per cent rise in employees during the period.

Buraimi saw a five per cent increase while Dakhliyah recorded the lowest percentage rise (0.7 per cent).
