(MENAFN - Arab News) The kuala lumpur international book fair was launched by malaysian education minister dato' seri idris bin jusoh in the presence fahad al-rashid saudi ambassador to malaysia at the world trade center.
the 12-day book fair was organized by the country's ministry of education in collaboration with the national book council.
more than 30 countries and 100 national and international publishing houses participated in the book fair along with various universities colleges and departments from saudi arabia. more than 6000 copies of the qur'an in the malay and english languages were distributed to visitors from the saudi pavilion.
the saudi ambassador expressed his pride at the opening of the saudi wing at the book fair which he said highlights saudi identity.
'several visitors showed a keen interest in the saudi pavilion which is an honor for our country" he said.
'books have always played a vital role in defining culture" he said. 'this book fair is an excellent platform for different countries to engage in cultural and knowledge exchange."
'the participation of saudi arabia in this exhibition will help to strengthen the strong and historic bilateral relations that exist between the two countries" he said.
'this is the second time saudi arabia participates in this book fair" said saad al-hussein public relations officer and supervisor at the exhibition.
'more than 500 titles were displayed at the exhibition" he said. 'a presentation about saudi arabia was also made to highlight the kingdom's heritage."
several saudi students also participated in the annual book fair.
