(MENAFN - Arab News) Abdulazeez abdulraheem director of understand qur'an academy and associate professor at king fahd university of petroleum and mines (kfupm) in dahran gave a lecture on the importance of understanding the holy qur'an on thursday.

aligarh muslim university alumni association (amuoba) in riyadh organized the workshop.

in his welcome address amouba president mohammad ahmad badshah said the association organized the workshop with the aim of reinforcing the importance of understanding and embracing islamic values.

meanwhile abdulraheem explained the new trends in islamic education and the means of understanding the holy book.

he pointed out that many people have been misled to believe that the qur'an is difficult to understand especially for non-arabic speakers. he asserted that the arabic language is not difficult to learn and demonstrated in an introductory presentation the ease of learning the language.

he added 'many western scholars have learned the arabic language and understand verses in the qur'an while unfortunately millions of muslims haven't taken the time to understand the contents of the holy book."

abdulraheem explained that years of research have allowed him to devise a system which simplifies teaching the qur'an.

'we have introduced the latest techniques such as tpi (total physical interaction) for learning arabic grammar and tps (think-pair-share) for effective learning within the classroom. in addition to that we have used a structured variety in lessons to ensure students are engaged. this includes learning and motivational tips about the relevance of what we recite in the qur'an to everyday life" he said.

he urged the attendees to encourage their children siblings and greater community to learn more about the qur'an and invest time in understanding god's message.

taquiuddin mir general secretary of amuoba moderated the program.
