Oman hosts Mideastfamily business meet


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The sultanate, represented by Ithraa, will play host to the tenth anniversary annual Middle East Families in Business Conference organised by Campden Wealth on April 28-29 at the Al Bustan Palace Hotel. 

Under the patronage of H H Sayyid Tarik al Said and chaired by Dr Mohammed al Barwani, founder and owner of MB Group, and Peter Leach, founder and chairman of Peter Leach & Partners, the closed-session conference is slated as a platform for discussions on generational wealth and family legacy.

The two-day event will look at how entrepreneurship, innovation and competitiveness are not only key to the success of family businesses, but are also central to the region's continued growth and development, a release said Sunday.

H H Sayyid Faisal al Said, Ithraa's director-general of marketing and media, said,  ''Family businesses are the backbone of many of our economies. Productivity, competitiveness, job creation, entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainability are part of their DNA.''

''It is vital that we acknowledge the essential contribution family businesses make to our region's economy and the long-term stability they bring. This conference will do that and more,'' he said. ''Through various case studies, interactive panel discussions and intimate networking groups, we at Ithraa believe this will be a great opportunity for local family businesses to come together under one roof and discuss issues that are especially important to them and address the challenges they face,'' he added.

Themed ‘Eye on the Next-Generation of Family Businesses', the conference will bring together almost 100 leading family business owners and decision-makers from across the Middle East to showcase best-practice approaches and explore effective governance models, re-inventing family businesses in new countries and corporate regeneration and dilemmas.

Sessions will also look at the role of women in family businesses, as well as succession planning and its challenges.

On the opening day, Ithraa will also present a paper on its role as the economic development engine driving the export of non-oil Omani products and attracting strategic investment to the sultanate.
