Iraqi religious leader Sistani affirms not backing any parliamentary candidate

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Iraqi shiite religious leader Ali Sistani called on Iraqis to head to polling stations on parliamentary election day and select "the most qualified," affirming he was not supporting any candidate. Sistani, in a statement by his office and distributed in Baghdad, said he was standing at equal distance from all candidates. That however, he added, did not mean he was not differentiating between who was good or bad, who was serving people and fighting corruption on one hand and those working for their own interests on the other. "The reponsibility of the choice lies on the voter himself so he should make the good choice so he will not regret it later," he said. General elections are due on April 30.
