(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) An Asian expatriate has been arrested from Muttrah for alleged drug trade.

An Asian expatriate has been arrested from Muttrah for alleged drug trade. Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Directorate General for Combating Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances stepped up surveillance and nabbed the accused with 130 heroin capsules and phones used to contact clients.

Police said he had links with an international drugs ring and received consignments via the sea route.

Interpol nabs man who duped money exchange employees

A team from Interpol Muscat at the Directorate General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigations has arrested a fraud accused from a Gulf country.

He was accused of duping staff of a money exchange facility in Muscat governorate.

According to case details, the accused told the staff that he needed to convert RO40,000 into foreign currency and made an initial payment of RO6,000, promising to pay the remaining amount the next day at an Al Khuwayr hotel. At the appointed time at the hotel the next day, staff from the money exchange handed him the foreign currency.

The accused, asking for time to get the outstanding rials, hired a taxi to the airport and flew out of the country keeping the staff waiting. He was then traced and brought back to the sultanate.

Two sentenced to jail for fraud

The Muscat Primary Court has sentenced two African nationals to one year in jail and fined them RO100 each for fraud.

It has ordered that they be deported after completion of their sentence.

The two had earlier been arrested on charges of duping people by promising to convert paper into currency using a special solution.

Drug seller caught in Barka

Sleuths from the Directorate General for Combating Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances have arrested a drug seller with 400 capsules of heroin from Abu al Nakheil in Barka. Tramadol pills were also found in his possession.

More drugs, which he confessed he had hidden, were also seized. It was found that he had entered Oman illegally.

The Directorate of Inquiries and Criminal Investigations in North Batinah Police Command has arrested an Asian expatriate for violating the Telecommunications Regulatory Act. He was arrested in a raid on his residence.
